Playing a band instrument is a wonderful thing!! But for most students, it is totally different than anything else they do!
There are no “red squiggles” under the wrong notes or rhythms, you don’t just play it with your thumbs, and you don’t win a magic scepter or bag of gold for advancing. You do become a better player and playing becomes easier but you must KNOW HOW TO PRACTICE!!!
With that in mind, we are passing out the following information in all the bands and going over it today and tomorrow. The 7/8 bands will receive their information on Wednesday and the 6th grade students will hear about it today.
Here are the information sheets they will receive:
6th grade: How Can I Practice in 6th grade Band
7th/8th grade: How to Practice Flowchart 1
I wanted you to have it so you can go over it with your student. No matter how good (or bad 😥 ) they think they are doing, they can always be better at practicing.
Please go over this sheet with them so that you will be able to reinforce what we do each day in class. They need to practice EVERY DAY!!! It must be a repetitive process that they do each and every day. A day off is a day lost!!
Thanks again for all you do to support your child in this amazing adventure of band!
Come along on the adventure of a lifetime!
